Kalbarri

Travelled from Denham to Kalbarri, about 380 kms which after some big drives is quite pleasant.
To get to Kalbarri you need to drive through the national park and this time of the year is wildflower season where for 3 or 4 months the bush is in colour with heaps of various wildflowers, see photos for some examples.
Arrived in Kalbarri and got a nice site which is right opposite the beach and the river mouth of the Murchison river. Small town with population about 1800 and mainly fishing and tourism.
Great pub in town which had a big screen so we managed to see the mighty AB,s lift the cup,had a bit of a big night with dinner in the pub and both felt seedy the next day.
Unfortunately the next few days were really windy with heaps of rain and at one time forecast hail, thunderstorms and flash flooding. Luckily it was not that bad and after two days became clear blue skies but still windy.
First clear day we drove to the national park to see Natures window then did a 9 km loop walk over the ridge , through the bush and back on the river bank . Fantastic scenery but hard yak in the heat .There has been hikers die there due to dehydration but its pretty rare and only in summer with extreme heat. Had a great day and loved the scenery including two Massive emus on the dirt road on the way back.
Next few days were spent fishing off the rocks but not a great deal of luck due to the wind and we seem to be crap at fishing at the moment .
We did manage to see heaps of whales breaching close to the shore and pods of dolphins swimming past but still no fish .
Had a very interesting dinner at Finays fish BBQ which is a bit of an insituiton , known for no service , no corkage, no bookings ,and if you take wine you take your own glasses.
The restaurant is basically a block of land with various sheds all decked out with fishing stuff I.e boats , outboard motors etc everywhere and looks very ramshackle .
The food is pretty basic you order at the counter and collect it when your called . Snapper ,Chips and rice $ 19.00 .worth a visit
Overall spent 9 days in Kalbarri and liked the place , might not of stayed as long but we did lose two days to the bad weather.
Off to Geraldton for the night to catch up with Patina and Jodie at the All Seasons
